Tourism Surges in Wartime Israel
TOURIST ARRIVALS REMAIN STEADY THROUGHOUT THE
SUMMER IN ISRAEL
New restaurants, hotels and attractions are opening in Israel, inspiring visitation and hope among tourists and locals alike
New York, Aug. 27, 2024 - Tourism to Israel remains steady this year, even in the wake of the tragic events of Oct. 7. In July, U.S. arrivals to Tel Aviv reached 35.7%, a 5.7% increase over June 2024. With an array of new hotels, restaurants, museums and tourism initiatives, Israel is continuing to show its resilience during these difficult times.
To assist residents working within the tourism sector, the Israel Ministry of Tourism has established guidelines for the financial support of essential employees within the tourism industry for the remainder of 2024. Under these guidelines, employees of tourism organizers who were employed before the events of Oct. 7 can receive wage assistance if their income has significantly declined compared with previous years.
“Many Christian travelers are coming to Israel on solidarity trips, to volunteer or to simply experience Israel now, because now is a time where they can be of service and also be a part of the strength and resilience of the Israeli tourism sector,” said Jill Daly, Director, Midwest Region, Israel Ministry of Tourism. “The fact that we are seeing these new attractions, hotels and restaurants following the tragic events of October 7 is quite remarkable.”
