Tripwire Troops: An Underused Strategy to Stop Wars Before They Start
August 15, 2025
post photo preview

From my vantage point in northern Kyrgyzstan, reflecting on global conflicts, one question looms large: is there a middle path between full-scale war and appeasement? Former President Donald Trump’s stated goal to “stop the killing” in Ukraine and Israel is laudable, but the method matters. Stopping the violence at the cost of surrender whether by forcing Ukraine to cede territory to Russia or by demanding Israel stand down to Hamas would be neither just nor lasting.

History offers a third way: deterrence through presence. This is the concept behind tripwire troops small, forward-deployed U.S. military units positioned in strategic locations not to fight, but to make any act of aggression against them an act of war against the United States. The result? Adversaries think twice.

Why Forward Presence Works

The U.S. currently has forces deployed in more than 170 countries, totaling around 170,000 service members. While many of these deployments are embassy security or routine training, a fraction are “tripwire” positions. These troops’ primary mission is deterrence, not combat.

The logic is simple: an attack that kills Americans compels a U.S. military response, something most adversaries cannot afford to provoke. In the Baltics, Poland, and other NATO states, these forces serve as a visible barrier to Russian expansion. The concept works in other regions as well:

  • South Korea: 28,500 U.S. troops have deterred North Korean aggression for over 70 years.

  • Kosovo: U.S. and allied forces have prevented a resumption of war between Serbia and Kosovo for decades.

  • Middle East: U.S. presence in Syria, Iraq, and Jordan has restrained—not eliminated hostile actions by regional actors.

In many cases, host nations share the costs. Germany, Japan, and South Korea contribute billions annually to offset expenses, making forward deployment more cost-effective than often assumed.

The Church Is Not a Hiding Place for Evil

There is a sickness in the Church today that we cannot ignore any longer. It's the culture of cover-up. The idea that protecting a ministry's reputation is more important than protecting the vulnerable. That confronting evil within the camp somehow threatens the work of God. That’s not biblical. That’s cowardice.

The man being exposed in this video—a well-known evangelist working in Central and South America—has even been connected to my own church. That hits close to home. And I want to say publicly that I’m proud of my pastor, Nick, for standing up for the victims and refusing to stay silent. That kind of courage is rare, and it’s exactly what the Church needs right now.

You may not know this man or any of the people involved. But that doesn’t mean this doesn’t concern you. It’s important to recognize the signs of abuse and manipulation in the Church so that when we see it, we can stand against it—clearly, boldly, and without hesitation.

If we say we follow Christ, then ...

John 14:6 AMP
[6] Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

I saw this post from a friend on Facebook that had some worthy points on video games. Take a look:

For a little while I was into playing a couple of video games. While I enjoyed the exploring and the beautiful scenery and some of the storyline, there was just too much killing. It was all killing of bad creatures or characters but it was killing. I stopped. I saw the following in FB and had to share... Hate crimes are rising. Mass shootings, assaults on minority communities, and public displays of violence are no longer rare — they are creeping into our everyday sense of “normal.”
What’s fueling this surge?
We often debate politics or mental health, but I believe we ignore at our peril a powerful duo: social media engineered to addict, and video games that blur the line between virtual carnage and emotional numbness.
Social media platforms are built to keep us hooked. They exploit our instincts for novelty, fear, and belonging — pulling us into loops of ...

What 157 Flags for “Palestine” Really Mean (and Don’t)

157 Countries “Recognize Palestine”

According to the latest tally, 157 UN member states—about 81% of the General Assembly—now recognize a Palestinian state (framed along 1967 lines: West Bank/Judea & Samaria, Gaza, and East Jerusalem with land swaps). That vote doesn’t grant UN membership (the U.S. vetoed that push at the Security Council), but it is a wave of diplomatic theater.

Countries that recognize the state of Palestine
Countries recognizing the State of Palestine

Let’s be clear:

  • On the ground, nothing changes. Israel still controls its borders; the Palestinian Authority controls scattered zones in the West Bank; Hamas still rules Gaza by force.

  • In the halls of international bodies, recognition amplifies lawfare—more podium time, more resolutions and filings at the ICJ/ICC targeting Israel. Symbolic isolation rises; security reality does not.

“Recognition” without governance, borders, or a unified leadership isn’t statehood; it’s virtue signaling.

Why Some Countries Said Yes—and Why Others Didn’t

Strength or Spiral: America’s Homegrown Insurgents, Russia’s Airspace Gambit, and the Cost of Weakness

Two streams in one day turned into one big theme: we’re in a knife-edge moment where weakness—at home and abroad—invites chaos. I want to lay out what I’m seeing on both fronts, why they’re connected, and what actually helps.

Antifa Isn’t “An Idea.” It’s an Organized Violence Machine.

I’ve covered Antifa up close for years—from Trump’s 2017 inauguration riots in D.C. to Portland’s nightly assaults on the federal courthouse. I’ve had a tripod swung at my head, dodged bottles and rocks, and watched black-clad “protesters” aim high-powered green lasers to permanently blind federal officers. You don’t bring a claw hammer, commercial fireworks, gas masks, and pre-cut shields to chant kumbaya. You bring those to break the law.

The media’s favorite line—“Antifa is just an idea”—is an excuse not to act. Here’s what I’ve personally seen:

  • Organization & logistics: Same faces, same vans, same gear popping up in different cities. Supply tents with food, goggles, shields, and “street medic” kits. That doesn’t happen by accident.

  • Funding pipelines: Bail funds, GoFundMe pages, linktrees, and “mutual aid” accounts keep rioters on the street and back out of jail within hours—especially in left-run jurisdictions where DAs refuse to prosecute.

  • Tactics: Mask up, mob up, commit the felony, swarm to “de-arrest” buddies, then melt away into the crowd. It’s insurgent tradecraft scaled for U.S. streets.

“But don’t we already have laws?”
