"Glorious things have been spoken of you, O city of God! Selah." (Psalms 87:3)
There is no other city with greater significance and more blessed promises than the chosen city of Jerusalem in the Promised Land of Israel (Psalm 132:13-14). Both the city and its future inhabitants are greatly treasured by God. By and large, much of Western Christianity has neglected such areas of Scripture or has interpreted them incorrectly, but may we allow His word to shape our theology and not man’s puffed-up and carnal traditions. Here are some of the many Scriptures that reveal the coming glories of the holy city of the Almighty (specifically of the Messianic age when Jesus Christ returns and reigns as King over a restored creation Acts 3:21)
"Says the LORD of hosts: ‘I am zealous for Zion with great zeal; With great fervor I am zealous for her.’ Thus says the LORD: ‘I will return to Zion, and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, the Mountain of the LORD of hosts, the Holy Mountain.’"
(Zechariah 8:2-3)
"At that time Jerusalem shall be called 'the Throne of the LORD,' and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts." (Jeremiah 3:17)
“Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, so that no one went through you, I will make you an eternal excellence, a joy of many generations." (Isaiah 60:15)
"The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness and speak no lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed their flocks and lie down, and no one shall make them afraid.” Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; You shall see disaster no more."
(Zephaniah 3:13-15)
"It shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles."
(Zechariah 14:16)
"The LORD also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the LORD will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel. "So you shall know that I am the LORD your God, dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. Then Jerusalem shall be holy, and no aliens shall ever pass through her again.” (Joel 3:16-17)
