Just landed in North Africa. This is my fifth country this trip. I can say with certainty that COVID-19 has dramatically altered the travel experience, and not for the better. A confusing mishmash of rules and requirements for each country, busy airports, and the agents, officials and employees are just as confused as everyone else.
On paper it is overwhelming. In practice, if you do your homework, plan ahead and pray, you can get where you. We’d to go.
In Morocco, they have all countries on one of two lists. If you are coming in from a List A country, you need a PCR test or vaccine card. Travelers from List B countries have those requirements but must also do a 10-day quarantine.
When we entered Bulgaria the other day on a whim, I didn’t consider how that might affect our plans for Morocco. Fortunately Bulgaria turns out to be on List A …but if it wasn’t we would have been in trouble.
More countries in Europe are starting to require travelers to get vaccinated. If you aren’t down for that, you may never be able to visit European countries again. A sobering thought.
And masks! Gah! Everyone on the plane is tested negative before takeoff…and most are vaccinated too. But you still have to wear a mask.
