Pride blinds us from seeing clearly. For when we are full of ourselves, there's no room for anything else (Obadiah 1:3). And pride opens us up to satan's deception, for by relying on ourselves we are more manipulatable. And self-confidence is rooted in arrogance, but the humble-minded understand their inadequacies - their own desperate need for the Almighty (2 Corinthians 3:5). They know only He is infallible and flawless (Psalm 18:30) - so they don't expect perfection from anyone, or themselves. Therefore they desire to be corrected when in error; they aren't complacent but will change their theology and lifestyle whenever the Bible calls for it. For they live not for the praise or adoration of people, but to follow the Lord regardless of consequences or sacrifices. For they are concerned with glorifying God's holy name, and not themselves in any way (Psalm 115:1). They will gladly take the last or lower place, for the opportunity to prefer another person (Luke 14:10, Philippians 2:3-4). And because they walk by faith in Jesus, in complete dependence upon Him, they look down on no one else, but seek to lift others up - compassionately, patiently and wisely (Galatians 6:1-3).
Prayer and thanksgiving are their life's breath (1 Thessalonians 5:16), and God's word is prioritized above regular food (Matthew 4:4). They lift up their hands and voices to God in worship, unashamedly - conforming themselves to God's word rather than church's preferences. For they don't care about man's opinions, but live to please and love the King of kings, and their neighbors as themselves. For the Great commandments are written on their hearts (Matthew 22:36-40). First seeking God's kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33), ever longing for His justice to be established on this planet (Matthew 6:10). Living in this world as sojourners; always being generous to the needy, gracious and kind in everything (1 Peter 2:11-12), storing up great and eternal riches in heaven (Matthew 6:20). Finding satisfaction in their relationship with their loving and powerful heavenly Father. And God's will, and His promises, keeps them motivated to persevere all hardships, because His glory is their main focus - for they have come to understand His worthiness!
P.s we all have pride, to one degree or another, but through His Spirit we can kill it, and become humble servants like Jesus. For if we want to grow spiritually, and make a difference for eternity, humility must be sought after, for it is the root of every good fruit (John 15:5)!
