In 1 Peter 2:9, Peter says to his readers, they are a holy nation, a royal priesthood, a people for God's own possession. These are privileges given to the people of Israel in Deuteronomy 7:6 and elsewhere in the Old Testament. And so, by the blood of Christ, now all the nations, or Gentiles, in Christ Jesus, partake of this special relationship with God - sharing in the blessings of Israel, being members of His household (Ephesians 2:19); privileged to participate in His glorious purposes, even in the coming ages, being a part of His chosen (elect) and holy people who reveal God's glory to the entire world. For truly, in Christ's coming reign, all nations shall flow to Jerusalem to worship Him; where Israel and all things will be restored to His knowledge (Isaiah 2:2-4, Acts 1:6, 3:21). Moreover, we, Christians, will share in an everlasting priesthood, and in His glorious reign over even the New Creation. For we see this in Revelation 21 and 22, where it's only His servants (the saints) that permanently live in the New Jerusalem — which is the Holy of Holies of the Eternal State (Revelation 21:16), because its measurements are similar to the Holiest of Solomon's temple (1 Kings 6:20). And we also know this because the kings of the (new) Earth's different nations bring their riches and glory into the Holy City — and all the countries walk/live by the light that comes from God's dwelling place; i.e. the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:24-26). For there Lord God Almighty and the Lamb will be enthroned in glory eternally, with us His beloved servants, His unique and treasured possession (inheritance); the sanctified nation and royal priesthood. Truly, as royal ministers, we shall serve Him continually, and see the glory of His face without hindrance, and reign with Him forever and ever over all creation, as He intended from the beginning with Adam and Eve (Revelation 22:3-5)! Amen.
